How Chiropractic Works and Helps
A Different Approach
Chiropractic care is a health care approach that focuses on the relationship between the body's structure, mainly the spine, and its function. The nervous system controls the function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of your body. The spinal cord is housed inside the spinal bodes or vertebra. These bones act as a protective barrier while also providing your body with the ability to bend and twist with movement.
A subluxation is a misalignment. Subluxations cause nerve interference that decrease the communication of the brain to the body and body to brain. Every joint in the body is susceptible to a subluxation, including the spine.
A Pinched Nerve
If a vertebra is misaligned, it can put pressure on a nerve therefore decreasing the amount of communication from the brain. This can cause dysfunction of that cell, tissue , organ or system. Just as pinching off a garden hose decreases the amount of water that flows through it, a pinched nerve from a misaligned vertebra will decrease the flow of communication within the nervous system.
What can a Doctor of Chiropractic do for me?
There is a different approach to pain, illness, or even disease at a chiropractic office. A doctor of Chiropractic will preform adjustments to the spine or other parts of the body with the goal of correcting misalignments, or subluxations of the vertebra. Removing subluxations will reduce nerve interference and allow your body to function at 100% of its optimal potential.
How are subluxations corrected?
A Doctor of Chiropractic will preform an adjustment to the spine or other parts of the body with the goal of correcting misalignments, or subluxations, opening the flow of communication. The adjustment can be performed many different ways as there are many different techniques available. The doctor can discuss with you which techniques will be best for your biomechanical needs. As always, our clinic is happy to perform free consultations.
Other modalities such as massage therapy, physical therapy, gait analysis and others may be employed in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments. Doctors of Chiropractic provide treatment plans that, when followed correctly, will help accelerate the healing process of the body. This is a great way to achieve optimal health.
